What the veterinarian does

In Ontario, prescription parasite products need a veterinarian’s prescription. A Telepets veterinarian reviews your pet’s history, weight, and any previous prevention or testing, answers your questions by secure messaging, and, when it is appropriate, prescribes the product that suits your pet. The veterinarian will tell you if testing or an in-person examination is needed first.

What can be prescribed

  • Flea and tick protection (chewable tablets or spot-on drops)
  • Heartworm and worm prevention
  • An all-in-one product that covers fleas, ticks, heartworm and worms

The veterinarian chooses what is appropriate for your pet. Telepets veterinarians do not prescribe controlled substances. Medication is paid to the pharmacy at its price; Telepets adds no markup.

No. You answer the intake on your own schedule, then a veterinarian messages you. The veterinarian may ask for photos or a short video clip of your pet, so it helps to have your pet nearby.

You choose. Pick up at a nearby pharmacy that carries the medication, or use a partner online pharmacy that delivers to your door. You pay the pharmacy directly.

If we cannot treat your pet online, the consultation fee is refunded. The veterinarian will tell you when your pet needs to be seen in person. Telepets is for non-urgent care; an emergency needs an emergency veterinary hospital.
