How it works

Messenger-based, guideline-driven veterinary care means no video calls, no carriers, and no gap in your pet's treatment.

1

Tell us about your pet

5 to 10 minutes

An online questionnaire you finish whenever it suits you. No appointment, no video calls.

2

A licensed vet reviews it

same day

A licensed veterinarian reviews your intake and connects with you on recommendations and next steps.

3

Your plan and prescription

same day

A written plan you keep. Any prescription goes to the pharmacy you pick at no extra charge — ready nearby or delivered to your door.

Prescriptions delivered or local pickup from a pharmacy you choose, such as:

& more

Who is this for?

Staying on treatment

Your pet does well on what it takes, and the prescription is running out.

You already have a prescription

Your regular veterinarian started the treatment and it is due to be renewed.

Settled at home

The behaviour is much better and you want to keep it that way.

No gap between refills

The last of the medication is running low and the clinic cannot fit you in.

Renewals only, at the same dose. Your pet must already be on a daily behaviour medication a veterinarian prescribed, and on the same dose for at least eight weeks.

What a veterinarian can prescribe

Dogs and cats, renewed in the form your pet already takes.

Daily anxiety medication

The medications used for ongoing anxiety, separation distress and behaviour.

Cats as well as dogs

Including a compounded liquid for cats.

Chews and liquids too

A flavoured chew is renewed as a chew, and a compounded liquid as a liquid.

Tablets Capsules Flavoured chews Compounded liquid

Questions about daily anxiety care

About daily anxiety care

No. This consultation renews treatment a veterinarian has already started. A first prescription for behaviour needs an in-person assessment.

Not yet. Your pet needs to have been on the current dose for at least eight weeks.

Not through this consultation. It continues the medication your pet already takes, at the dose it already takes. Changing it, reducing it or stopping it is a decision for the veterinarian who knows your pet.

Yes. A bite or new aggression, a seizure at any point in your pet’s life, or a pet that is unwell right now is not a fit for this service and you should instead seek in-person care.

Both. The medication and the dose differ between them, and the veterinarian works from your pet’s own species, weight and history. Each pet needs its own consultation.

Getting started

Yes. You can keep more than one pet on your account. Each pet needs its own consultation, because a veterinarian has to assess each animal individually.

Your veterinarian

Yes. Every veterinarian is licensed and in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). A veterinarian reviews your pet’s case — never a technician, an assistant or an automated system.

Intakes submitted during business hours (9 AM – 7 PM ET) are reviewed the same day. After-hours submissions are reviewed the next business day. Most intakes are reviewed within 90 minutes.

You answer the questions on your own schedule instead of booking a time, and there is no travel and no waiting room. A veterinarian starts their review from your answers, photos, videos and recent vet care like lab tests and prescriptions, and messages you on next steps from there. Our veterinarians can treat many common problems online, but this does not replace your pet’s regular in-person examinations at a local clinic.

Prescriptions and pharmacy

You choose. We send the prescription to the pharmacy you pick. You pay the pharmacy directly. Telepets does not sell the medication and adds no markup to it. Two options:

Online Pharmacy
Home delivery through one of our partner pharmacies: vetmeds.ca, VetScript or Pets Drug Mart. You can look at the medication and shipping costs before choosing this option.

Pharmacy Pickup
Pick it up at a local veterinary pharmacy or a big-box chain like Costco. We’ll show you which nearby pharmacies carry your pet’s medication. Sending a prescription for pickup is free.

We can continue an ongoing treatment or prescription. Our veterinarian will conduct a full consultation to determine what is appropriate for your pet.

Cost and refunds

$49 per consultation + tax. For any prescriptions: medication, dispensing fees and shipping (for home delivery) are paid to the pharmacy you choose, at that pharmacy’s price.

If we cannot treat your pet online, we refund the fee. Our Refund Policy sets out every case in full.

Safety and privacy

Telepets is for non-urgent care. If your pet shows signs of an emergency, such as difficulty breathing, collapse, a seizure, heavy bleeding, possibly swallowing something poisonous, straining without being able to urinate, or a suddenly swollen abdomen, go to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital straight away. Do not wait for an online reply.
